note: This is the first in a series that will provide tips to make your next
wedding, party or other event a success.
When planning an outdoor wedding there are many matters to
consider. Decorations, weather and seating arrangements are a few things to
take into consideration. For example:
- Is there an area that can be used in case of inclement weather?
- Are decorations easy to assemble and remove?
- Will seating arrangements accommodate all guests comfortably?
-
Will the outdoor venue allow for the show-stopping moment,
which is of course the first glimpse of the bride walking down the aisle?
But those questions only cover the first half of the day. You
must also consider a second moment of anticipation for your guests: arriving at
the reception. Will your decorations and menu items convey the atmosphere you
desire for your wedding? It is important to remember there is a fine line between
decorations large enough to make a statement, yet intimate enough to showcase
the bride and groom. Sometimes less can be so much more!
Also, while flowers and tablecloths are often considered
the most important decorations, many forget that a buffet table can be another
important focal point. The visual display of your food is essential. Remember,
we eat with our eyes first and mouth second. Soft lit rooms and candles
accenting the food table are other ways to make your occasion special.
Another item to consider is the removal of any extra
decorations brought into the venue. Many locations charge for any clean up due
to extraneous decorations. Will your parents or friends be staying late to
remove decorations? Also, be sure to ask the staff booking your facility if
tables, chairs and linens are included with the rental fee.
