Macy Lagarde, 17, was one of two girls chosen to attend Girl’s Nation in Washington, D.C. She was elected to go after applying for the opportunity at Girl’s State. Girl’s Nation is an opportunity for girls around the country to create their own “United States,” complete with elections, Congress and bill proposals. Lagarde had the opportunity to meet Sen. Mary Landrieu (photo shown here) and President George W. Bush. “I was never interested in politics before Girl’s Nation. But during all this, I really learned what politics is all about.”Lagarde is also a member of Beta Club, the Book Club and Interact Club at Zachary High School.
Devon Durham, Copper Mill Elementary fifth-grader, recently realized
his artistic talents when his drawing was chosen out of the entire
class as the cover of the 2008-09 year book. Durham's mother, Barbara,
said she did not notice how much he liked to draw until this year.Durham plays football for the Junior Broncos and stands out, literally, in his class. He is about 5'6". Durham has two younger sisters, Tenae and Myah, and one older brother, Jamal.
