Glaucoma

Glaucoma is a major cause of blindness around the world. It slowly but painlessly destroys all vision. Glaucoma is caused by a variety of factors like heredity, race, diabetes, heart disease and high blood pressure. There is no cure for glaucoma, but here are a few ways to prevent and treat the disease:

The average person with glaucoma will lose 50 percent of their sight before they have any idea something is wrong. Get your eyes examined annually for early detection.

Think green! Eat foods rich in lutein and zeaxanthin, like spinach, celery, green beans, green olives and peas.

Don’t keep your eyes focused in one place for a sustained period of time.

Get at least 20 minutes of natural sunlight a day.

Along with other health risks, smokers have a significantly higher risk of eye disease than non-smokers.

Reduce sugar and alcohol intake.
