Rotary Club of Zachary Reaches Out To Community and the World

By Lisa Rioux

The Rotary Club of Zachary belongs to Rotary International, a worldwide organization of business and professional leaders who provide humanitarian service, encourage high ethical standards in all vocations and help build goodwill and peace. There are about 1.2 million club members, called Rotarians, who belong to 32,000 Rotary clubs in more than 200 countries and geographical areas.

The Rotary Club of Zachary was established April 18, 1941. The Club presently boasts 57 active and seven honorary members and is in Rotary District 6200. Every year the club elects new officers to meet goals and expectations for all clubs within that district. Rotary Club of Zachary meets every Thursday for lunch, fellowship and presentations provided by charities, community leaders and present-day themes that can strengthen community and international awareness.

The Rotary Club of Zachary has donated to our community as well as international projects like worldwide polio eradication and the California wildfire disaster. One of the community projects Rotary Club of Zachary has elected to fund and establish is a yearly high school scholarship for vocational and university candidates.  Other donations include the Star Lab presented to Zachary Elementary School, the water fountain and bench along Old Scenic’s walking path and the cemetery fence project on the corner of Highway 64 and Old Scenic.

One of Rotary’s main focuses is literacy. We provide and read books to local schools at the elementary level. The Club has also established an ongoing fund to supply paper products to the Zachary Food Bank, provided by Georgia Pacific.

For Rotary, The Four-Way Test is the cornerstone of all action. It has been this way for years and will be in the future. Of the things we think, say or do:

1.    Is it the TRUTH?
2.    Is it FAIR to all concerned?
3.    Will it build GOODWILL and BETTER FRIENDSHIPS?
4.    Will it be BENEFICIAL to all concerned?

If you are interested in serving international and community projects and feel the four-way test should be a way of life, please talk to a Rotarian about becoming a member.
