You may be surprised to learn that you don’t have to consider yourself wealthy—or start a foundation—to get involved with charitable giving. Today there are many new and innovative ways for people to donate money, time, or services while having the time of their lives.
One of the most exciting and revolutionary programs is Cruising for a Cause. Both travelers and non-profit organizations benefit from these programs.
A cruise vacation is the perfect getaway for every age and interest. On board guests enjoy superb meals, great entertainment, exciting activities, luxury spas and fascinating destinations. Traditionally, cruises offer the most vacation for the money. With fuel prices on the rise, they have been even more attractive to travelers looking for a vacation value. And now major cruise lines are offering special sailings that benefit both the customer and his or her favorite non-profit organization. For every cabin sold on the special sailings a donation is made to the non-profit group.
Most travel agencies do not charge to set up special fundraising cruises. Travel agents can save you time and money by providing professional advice on available cruises. Using a local bonded and licensed agency also provides additional security and the peace of mind that the process will flow smoothly.
Several non-profit organizations in Baton Rouge will host their first fundraiser cruise - the Voyage of Hope - in January, 2009. Each has the potential to raise thousands of dollars. Other groups such as civic associations, churches and ministries are planning to participate. Educational groups are also getting together to explore cruising as a way of earning extra dollars.
Another new trend in combining giving and travel is Volun-tourism. This type of travel is better suited for those who are looking for something beyond a traditional beach or mountain vacation.
Today, people are looking for more than just a trip. They desire a journey that will broaden their horizons. Through Volun-tourism, travelers are allowed an opportunity to spend a portion of there vacation time giving back to the people or the environment in which they are visiting.
This may come in the form of assisting scientists in a sea turtle release program during an island vacation, or participating in an archeological dig on the Yucatan peninsula. The volunteer portion of the trip is always coupled with days of relaxation and personal enjoyment. Most programs do not require any prior experience to participate. This experience gives the individual an all new sense of fulfillment.
