Olympic Trainer Recommends JCABA Members: ‘Stick To It’

Bill Gvoich, a former Olympic trainer and conditioning coach for the Detroit Redwings hockey team, spoke at the Jones Creek Area Business Association’s March meeting.  Gvoich explained that roughly 80% of health problems are related to lack of prevention through proper diet and exercise.   He said the biggest roadblock to a better life is stress. It is difficult for a body to lose weight when is it under stress, so the first step is to minimize stress in your life, and then focus on an improved diet and daily exercise.

As we age, he said, it is important to stay active and remain fit.   He said we have to take responsibility for ourselves and set a proper example for our children and grandchildren. Gvoich said it really does not take much.    Walking is the best way to start an exercise routine.   He recommends starting with just 30 minutes a day, three times a week and then building on that until you’re in great shape.   But the most important thing he said is to:   “Stick to it.”
