No News is Bad News
For Hickory Ridge CA

By Rudy Serio
HRCA President

Since our last article and Hickory Ridge Civic Association meeting, nothing has really changed. We are still less than 50 percent supportive of our HRCA.

It is hard to understand why some of us choose to live in Hickory Ridge where we make the largest investment of our lives but we refuse to get involved except to complain when something goes wrong.

When the association sent out the dues notices, we asked for suggestions, complaints and comments. We received some very good suggestions and some very good comments. Thanks to those who took the time to write out their comments and return them to us.

Suggestions
Here are a few examples:

  • Stop people from parking in front yards (a serious violation of our subdivision restrictions) and from parking cars on the street overnight. Security officers have issued some tickets, but the Sheriff’s Office advised a warning should be given for first-offenses. We are looking into this, although issuing warnings makes it more difficult for patrolling officers to keep records. The Sheriff’s Office number is (225) 389-8680.
  • Make dues mandatory. To our knowledge, dues cannot be made mandatory. If anyone can tell us how to do this, we will certainly try. The officers and board agree everyone should pay their dues.
  • Stop blowing grass into the road. We’ve all noticed this happening. In addition to residents, we’ve seen some yard maintenance crews doing this. Anyone blowing grass into the road should stop and we must inform our yard maintenance crews to stop.

There were several other comments and suggestions sent in with dues. We are unable to comment on all suggestions in this issue. We will address a few each time.   Again, thanks to those who responded. Cars parked on the streets have been reported, and it is hoped the authorities will respond. If you are reporting these cars, please also call the Sheriff’s Office and let them know. Maybe something will get done if they receive several calls.

Talk to Your Neighbors
We would still like members paying dues to talk to their neighbors about paying dues and attending our bi-monthly civic association meetings.

Remember, good neighbor behavior dictates:

1.       Controlling our pets, and following the leash laws.

2.       Obeying parking regulations. Cars must be off the street, off the grass and out of the front yard.

3.       Sending in your dues, if you haven’t already done so.

4.       Making every effort to attend bi-monthly meetings.

5.       Controlling yard maintenance crews.

Hickory Ridge remains one of the most desirable neighborhoods in the Baton Rouge area, thanks to a very few individuals. Just think of what we could do if we all chipped in. We have less than 50 percent of residents paying dues and only four to six folks attending the bi-monthly meetings.

Let’s all become good neighbors. Chip in!
