A Note from the Hickory
Ridge Civic Association President
It’s amazing when we look at the last several articles written over the past year or so that the same items seem to pop up every time. Some are very pleasant, positive and good for our community; however, on the flipside many of the same disappointments repeat themselves.
The real item that the officers and board cannot understand or figure out is the fact that only 50 percent of the residents pay their dues. We encourage any suggestions as to how we can increase the neighborhood participation. We do receive calls about issues in the subdivision that do not please residents. Many of these calls are from residents who aren’t paying their dues.
All of you will be receiving your dues notices shortly. Please respond as soon as possible, and perhaps you can gently encourage your neighbors to do the same. Again, any help we can receive will be greatly appreciated. We ask for your comments and suggestion when you mail in your dues.
Suggestions where
everyone can contribute:
1. Cars continue to be a problem. There are cars parked on front lawns, on the street overnight and across sidewalks. These create an eyesore and we ask that you please help by not being an offender. All of these examples are against our own rules, restrictions and ordinances.
2. One of the things that has really increase from this summer is the blowing of grass out into the street. It’s been reported that once commercial yard maintenance crew was blowing grass cuttings into the street and across into neighbors’ yards. These cuttings in the street will wind up in the storm drains and can clog them; causing flooding. Everyone’s help is appreciated.
3. Remember we must control our pets in the subdivision. Leash laws do apply. Many people are walking or exercising and pets can be a nuisance when running loose. Also when walking pets be sure to respect our neighbors’ property.
4. Again we want to commend our security patrol. They have been doing a great job and crime is minimal.
5. We continue to work with the city parish to keep the boulevard neat. They have been doing a great job. We are hoping to get trees trimmed before the end of the year. If the opportunity arises please let them know we appreciate their work.
In closing, Hickory Ridge remains one of the more desirable neighborhoods in this community. Please do your part to keep it that way. Right now we have maybe 8-10 residents who do all the work. With a subdivision with perhaps 1,000 people, think of what we could do if we had 100 percent dues payers and 200-300 attending bi-monthly association meetings and a large group helping with the projects we do every year. Getting involved is the answer.
Let’s all become good neighbors and chip in.
Finaly, your association wishes everyone a very Merry Christmas and a Happy and Prosperous New Year and many more in the future. Be especially watchful as vandals show up this time of the year. Report any unusuals to the East Baton Rouge Sheriff’s office.

Those
of you new to
The
candle lights up the bag, causing it to glow, particularly for white paper bags
although brown will also do.
It is an
impressive and heartwarming sight to see block after block lit up in this
manner. This is why so many of our fellow Baton Rougeans enjoy driving through
our neighborhood on the evening when we Light the Luminaries.
We
hope everyone will help line our streets with Luminaries again this year at 6
p.m. on Sunday, Dec. 20.
