LA State Museum Seeks Historic Items For Exhibit
By Arthur Smith, Louisiana State Museum
Did you or someone you know live in the Old South Baton Rouge neighborhood during the 1950s, 1960s or perhaps even earlier?
If so, it’s time to dust off those old photo albums and other treasures. The Louisiana State Museum may want to include them in a major exhibit opening in June 2009.
“The story of this neighborhood can best be told with the help of those who lived there,” said Aimee St. Amant, curator of exhibits at the Louisiana State Museum.
The museum is looking for photographs, artworks, pamphlets, advertising,
church, school and business records. Unless donated to the Museum’s permanent collection, all items will be returned at the conclusion of the yearlong exhibit.
Founded in 1906, The Louisiana State Museum collects, preserves and interprets
Louisiana’s rich cultural heritage from pre-historic times to the present through more than 450,000 objects and works of art.
