HOW DO YOU MAKE A LUMINARY?
You don’t have to live in Kenilworth Subdivision to light luminaries on Sunday, Dec. 21st
and invite the spirit of Christmas into your home. Here’s all you have to do:
1. Place small brown or white paper bags about a yard apart along the curb or sidewalk at the front of your property.
2. Pour about a cupful of sand (or kitty litter) into each bag (enough to keep the bag standing).
3. Place a small candle in each bag.
4. Light the candles between dusk and 6 p.m. (they last a couple of hours).
5. Enjoy the beauty of the Christmas / Holiday Season.
The Kenilworth Civic Association sponsors a sale of candles and bags for the luminaries each year. They will be on sale at 1424 Kenilworth (corner of Aries) from 2 to 5 p.m. on Sunday, Dec. 14. Packages of 25 bags and tea candles are sold for $3.50 each. Bags of sand can be purchased at Highland Hardware. (Thanks to Matherne's for assistance in getting Luminary supplies this year.)
Luminary Sunday provides a good opportunity to make sure you know your neighbors. Ask them if they will be lighting Luminaries or if they need any help doing so. If they will not be around the evening of the 21st, maybe they'd like it if you placed a few luminaries to light up their place for Santa. It is a truly wonderful way to share the holiday spirit.
