Jones Creek Business Association

Dr. Laura Cassidy, Sixth District Congressman Bill Cassidy’s wife, spoke to the Jones Creek Businessman’s Association at their October 2009 meeting.   Dr. Cassidy said Republicans are all for health care reform. She said the focus needs to be on access, quality, and cost of health care.   She spoke in favor of patients taking control by starting health savings accounts which promotes personal responsibility.

The trial lawyers are in favor of the Democratic bill.   To lower the cost to the federal government, the Democrat’s plan puts more people on Medicade, thus shifting the costs to the state.   Dr. Cassidy said it is very important to Louisiana that we stop this.   In our state, 25 percent of people are already on Medicade.   It is estimated that it will rise to 55 percent, which means our state’s money set aside for roads and schools will have to cover the increased Medicade expense.
