How to Sell Your Home
In a Buyer’s Market
By NeCole Pinsonant of Custom Solutions Real Estate
Selling your home in today’s market can be difficult, especially if you suffered damage during Hurricane Gustav. It certainly takes patience, research and a positive attitude. Here are a few tips recommended by professionals that can help you sell your home in a buyer’s market:
1. Don’t get greedy. Sure, you’ve probably spent a lot of money on your home over the years, not to mention the countless memories you and your family have made. However, you must learn to be realistic about the value of your home. Hire a home inspector or real estate agent to look at your home from an objective view.
2. ‘Tis the season! Some seasons are better than others when it comes to selling your home. For example, many families move while their children are on summer vacation. During the holiday season, however, most families stay put.
3. Go green. The first thing a potential buyer sees is your yard. Try planting flowers and keeping the grass mowed. Consider repainting your exterior if the front of your home shows a lot of wear and tear.
4. Hire help. A realtor can relieve much of your stress by marketing and evaluating your home. But remember: not all realtors are created equal. Find a realtor who seems flexible and experienced.
5. Do your homework. Research the value of houses comparable to yours in location or design. Your real estate agent can do this, or you can research public records on the internet or at the library. The key is to price your house just a little lower than the ones comparable to yours.
