Hickory Ridge Neighborhood Updates and Upcoming Events
By Larry Rosendahl and Rudy Serio
The special guest speaker at the October 7 association meeting was Dr. Daniel Collins of the Urban Forestry Department at Southern University. He addressed the group on the value of trees (with special attention toward the trees lining Hickory Ridge Boulevard) and the importance of maintaining these trees.
The attendance at Association meetings is continuing to increase. While the numbers are still few considering the number of homeowners in the subdivision, there were times that we had to cancel the meeting because no one showed up. Please plan to attend the December 2 meeting at Jones Creek Library.
Due to the BREC Park tree damage caused by Hurricane Gustav, the Fall Festival was cancelled. However, plans are in the works for a Spring Festival. This event will be open to residents of Hickory Ridge, and will be a great way to meet your neighbors.
Block Captains are being recruited to get the word out concerning anything to do with the subdivision. If you would like to serve in this capacity, please call 293-3411 Ext 249, and leave your contact information, as well as the street you would be interested in representing.
After nine years of service, subdivision treasurer Bruce Bourque is stepping down. Louise Strong has been appointed to serve in that capacity. Many thanks to Bruce for all the time given in service to Hickory Ridge!
The Jones Creek Area Business Association Christmas Parade will take place Sunday December 14, at 2 p.m., and will run from South Harrell’s Ferry Road to Tiger Bend. This is one of the biggest Christmas parades in the city, and offers a real “Down Home” feeling parade with lots of throws and goodies for the children. If you haven’t experienced this event, plan to attend!
Hickory Ridge will have a Christmas decorating contest again this year. Plans are in the works, so watch for details to follow.
Everyone should let the parish know what a sensational job they did with storm clean-up. They had a daunting task and we should all appreciate their help.
HRCA is where your castle is. Make yourself available to help when you can. Our special thanks to those that pitch in to make Hickory Ridge a great place to live!
