Louisiana Master Gardeners’ Mother’s Day Weekend

Are you beginning to plan your garden for the warm season? Louisiana Master Gardeners from East Baton Rouge Parish are growing hundreds of plants and dozens of varieties that will thrive in your garden throughout the hot south Louisiana summer. Mark your calendars for the annual Mother’s Day Weekend Louisiana Master Gardener plant sale on Saturday, May 9 at LSU AgCenter’s Burden Center from 8 a.m.-2 p.m.
Here are some of the plants that you can expect to find: root hardy hibiscus including the old fashioned Rose of Sharon and the Star of Texas hibiscus (red and white), Abutelons, Angel Trumpets, Cats Whiskers, Purple Cone Flowers, Louisiana Iris, Walking Iris, new varieties of Hydrangea, Coleus, Morning Glory Bushes, Angelonias, Lantana, Daisies, Turks Cap, native ground cover (the Partridge Berry), ferns, a variety of vines, easy care roses and several newer varieties of petunias that will make it through a lot of the Louisiana summer.
And if you are looking for a Mother’s Day gift, there will be several of hanging baskets, herb pots that will last through the summer and a kid’s gardening corner. There will also be succulents and succulent pots that make unique gifts.
The proceeds from the EBR Louisiana Master Gardeners’ Plant sale are used to support various community, garden-related projects such as plant health clinics, the Junior Master Gardener program at LSU Hilltop Arboretum, landscaping for Habitat for Humanity houses, the kitchen garden at Magnolia Mound Plantation and a horticulture student scholarship at LSU. Burden Center is located just off I-10 at Essen Lane. Bring a wagon if you have one. Payment is accepted by cash or check. For more information, call 763-3990.
