9th Central Prayer Banquet Is Set For Wed., August 1st

A packed house is expected for the 2007 Central Prayer Banquet set for Wednesday evening, August 1, 2008, at the St. Alphonsus Family Center located at the corner of Greenwell Springs Road and Frenchtown Road.

This year’s featured speaker for the non-denominational worship service and community meeting to kick off the start of a new school year will be Ryan Dobson. He will talk that evening on “Moral Relativism.”

Dobson is author of a new book titled Be Intolerant - Because Some Things Are Just Stupid. When the Banquet Planning Committee met in May it was decided that “Be Intolerant” would be the theme for this year’s banquet.

Tolerance at Any Cost

In his book Dobson presents the case for absolutes based on the Word of God through the use of examples that break through today's tolerance-at-any-cost atmosphere. “Awaken yourself and your friends to the world's desperate hunger for absolute truth — and the church's duty to proclaim it,” says Dobson.

His last name may ring a bell because Dobson’s father is Dr. James Dobson, a well-known Christian psychologist and radio personality whose books on family and child-rearing have influenced millions. His wife Shirley Dobson is also familiar as an author, speaker and chairman of the National Day of Prayer Task Force.

Thirty-three-year-old Ryan is one of James and Shirley's two adult children.

Tickets are available at the Central Fire Station on Sullivan Road and at Crossroads Animal Hospital on Greenwell Springs Road across from St. Alphonsus. College students, High School and Middle School Students are free. Adult tickets are $10.

Footballers to Attend

Arrangements have been made with new Central High School football coach Sid Edwards so that Central High football players will be able to attend the event this year according to event Co-Chairmen Dr. Tony and Judy LoBue.

Music will be provided by The Greenwell Springs Baptist Church Youth Band, and the “Red Hatters” will be serving once again. Bryan and Sons Printing has donated the printing of the Central Prayer Banquet tickets and flyers.

“We want everyone to come out this year to make the Ninth Annual Central Prayer Banquet the biggest and best every,” said Dr. Lobue. “It is so important this year to get our students started off on the right foot as we begin the school year.”
