City of Central Chamber of Commerce

Transferring Taxes and Shopping Locally
Fund City of Central Community, Schools

By Jim Sartwell
Executive Assistant

As residents of Central, it is important for us to recognize that by making our purchases in Central we will provide direct

support to our schools and community. However, we know that there are situations where our business community in Central may not supply the specific item desired. When this occurs, it is important for us to inform the vendor that we live in the city limits of Central in order for the city and schools to receive the appropriate sales tax distribution. This is especially

important when it comes to big purchase items such as automobiles, furniture and building supplies.

The Chamber of Commerce and the business community of Central are committed to helping our city and school district grow into the best in Louisiana. Currently, the Central Chamber has more than 260 members and is growing every day just as Central continues to grow daily.

Individuals are recognizing that Central is the area where they want to live and raise their children. On March 31, residents of Central voted to transfer homeowners and sales taxes from East Baton Rouge Parish Schools to the Central Community School District. These taxes are the primary funds needed to run our new school district.

In October we will have that opportunity again to vote to transfer our sales taxes from the City of Baton Rouge to the City of Central. These funds will be the basis for providing the infrastructure and services for the City of Central.
