Central Chamber of Commerce:

Moving Forward in Central: Louisiana's 12th Largest City!

By Lucky Ross, President
Central Chamber of Commerce

(EDITOR’S NOTE: We were saddened by the untimely passing of Central Chamber of Commerce Executive Assistant Jim Sartwell on Monday, October 15, 2007. Jim had been providing an article for each issue of Central Neighbors. We prevailed on Chamber President Lucky Ross to pen a piece for this issue. We profiled Mr. Ross in this issue, so readers get both an article by him and one about him.)

Many positive accomplishments are being realized as the City of Central’s Chamber of Commerce strives to be a positive influence in the transformation of our community into a vibrant, well planned city.

While the Chamber as an association continues to grow (now almost 300 members strong) so does the benefits and activities that The Chamber provides to its membership and the citizens of the Louisiana’s 12th largest city. This will be a year of accelerated growth and a year of further organization in order to properly address the escalation of Chamber activities.

Possibly the most significant aspect of the Chamber organization in 2007 is the formation of 16 distinct committees. These committees will assure the success of an increased number of Chamber and community activities.

Chamber functions include: publishing Central Profile Magazine; providing workshop type classes to assist business members in achieving their level of success; The Annual Prayer Banquet for Central students; conducting Election Forums; organizing The Chamber’s Annual Golf Tournament; assisting in beautification activities such as “Central Clean-up Day” and the “Adopt-A-Spot” program; the annual Christmas Parade/Business Expo/Craft Fair/Carnival; and holding the annual Mardi Gras Ball.

The Central Chamber also will play a key role in activities such as “Cookin for Our Kids” and “The Traveling Vietnam Memorial Wall” in 2007. In addition, this organization raised thousands of dollars utilized in the formation of The Central Community School District.

One would have to agree that such an array of activities give the Central Chamber of Commerce a definite identity in our city. Meanwhile, The Chamber has gone one step further by actually establishing a physical office at 13457 Hooper Road. This provides The Chamber a facility where meetings can be held and Chamber business can be conducted.

Finally, perhaps the most significant ingredient that will cause the Central Chamber of Commerce to be a positive influence in our City this year is participation. Chamber members have made a sincere commitment to participate and help promote the organization’s many activities.

Chamber members have obligated themselves to many worthwhile causes. This commitment by so many people is what causes The Chamber and The City of Central to be everything that it can be. This devotion is the foremost component in determining that Central is A Community That Cares.
