New Central Kiwanis Club Touts 26 Charter Members

The City of Central now has a Kiwanis Club! The club has 26 charter members who are active and eager to help the local community and children.

Chris Choate of Edward Jones is the club president; Karla Feigley of La Capitol Federal Credit Union is the secretary and Natalie Barber of Capital One is the treasurer.

The club is off to a great start, according to President Choate. In December Central Kiwanis held a raffle to raise money to put an automated external defibrillator (AED) unit in the Central schools that didn’t already have an AED. They raffled off a generator, a shot gun and a $100 gas card. The highly successful raffle raised over $2,500 which was enough to purchase two units. Tanglewood Elementary and Central Intermediate each received an AED.

The club has also partnered with the 3rd grade teachers at Tanglewood Elementary to start their very first “Terrific Kid” program, a student recognition program that promotes character development, self-esteem, and perseverance. Each month the teachers choose a boy and a girl from their class to receive a Terrific Kid certificate, pencil, ruler, button, and ice cream donated by David’s Dairy Queen.

President Choate said Central Kiwanis is actively looking for members. For more information call: Chris Choate at 261-9619; Karla Feigley at 342-5055 ext. 2224; or Natalie Barber at 381-2067.

Kiwanis is a global organization of volunteers dedicated to changing the world, one
child and one community at a time.
