An explanation...

Editor’s note: When Herman Galatas of 3D Plans told us at a Central Chamber of Commerce meeting that his company recently completed a picture of the new gym to be built at Central High School, we jumped right on it.

Unfortunately, our quick reaction created a good deal of confusion and consternation. For that, we apologize to our Central Neighbors readers. The following letter provides more on the subject of school construction in Central.

Dear Mr. Matthews:

I have received calls and have been asked many questions by a number of citizens in the Central Community about the article in your magazine relative to Central High School building a new gym. I feel the need to inform the citizens of Central as to what work is being done regarding facilities.

The Central Community School Board, at my request, appointed a Steering Committee to address enrollment and facility needs for our school system short term and long term. This committee is made up of staff members, parents, realtors, bankers, business people, and concerned citizens. They have been meeting since November and have analyzed a wealth of information. They will be presenting recommendations to the school board members in the near future.

The Central Community School Board will make the decisions regarding the plans to address facility needs of our school system. They will provide opportunity for input from the community prior to making a final decision. Once a decision is made they will then submit the plans before the voters for approval. I will then be charged with the responsibility of overseeing and implementing any plan approved by the board and the voters of our school system.

I hope that this provides for your readers and our citizens an overview of the process we are following to address the facility needs of that Central Community School System and the children we serve.

Sincerely,

Michael W. Faulk, Superintendent
Central Community Schools
