Two New Programs Highlighting

Central Chamber’s Fall Schedule

Central Chamber of Commerce

August brings us the start of another school year.   The City of Central Chamber of Commerce believes in not only helping to improve our business community but also in supporting events that strengthen the lives of our young people, their families and our community schools.

We are excited to have the opportunity to sponsor and support two very important events at the start of this school year.

The Central Student Prayer Banquet is in its twelfth year!   This nondenominational event sponsored by the City of Central Chamber of Commerce is dedicated to all students and their schools in the Central Community. Our guest speaker this year is Bob Lenz.   He has an intense passion to instill hope in our youth.   He connects with the hearts and minds of youth like no other speaker can, sharing personal stories and experiences that help others deal with real life while challenging them to make a difference in their world.   This year’s event will take place on Wednesday evening, September 15, 2010 at Central High’s Gymnasium.

Prime Time Family Reading is a six-week (September 21- October 26) event that will be sponsored by the Central Intermediate School, who received a grant from the Louisiana Endowment for the Humanities.   Even though I hate to admit it, I was raised in a time when you had one or maybe two television stations to choose from, movies were something you traveled to the city to see and beta was just on the distant horizon.   Reading books was our only way to escape into another world of adventure!

Prime Time Family Reading will reach about 75 students, parents and siblings in the Central area.   Even though we live in an age of ever changing technology, the importance of a child’s reading ability and opportunities for families to read together cannot be over emphasized.   For more information on this program call CIS Librarian Cindy Blanchard at 261-1390 .

The Chamber is currently collecting sponsors to provide door prizes, food and drinks for the six evening meetings that will be held.

For more information on either of these exciting programs give us a call at the Chamber office at 261-5818 or go to cityofcentralchamber.com.
