Cat Haven Names
Dr. McKowen
Veterinarian of
the Year for 2006
Dr. Roberta McKowen of the Zachary Small Animal Clinic was
named Veterinarian of the Year for 2006 by the organization Cat Haven. She was
recognized at their annual meeting and volunteer appreciation party on Jan. 9
for her work with the organization.
John McChesney,
president of Cat Haven, cited Dr. McKowen’s generosity as one of the many
reasons the organization’s board members selected her for the award. McKowen
donated the cost of 4-in-1 shots to undomesticated cats. McChesney said she has
also been involved with Cat Haven almost from its inception.
“Dr. McKowen will
spay or neuter even the most feral of cats because of the serious
overpopulation problem which she feels very strongly about,” McChesney said.
Dr. McKowen was
presented with a framed original oil painting of a cat with a brass plate
naming her as Veterinarian of the Year for Cat Haven for 2006.
Cat Haven is a non-profit group in Baton Rouge that was
established in 1999 to rescue cats and kittens and place them in loving homes.
They spay and neuter cats, test for feline leukemia and feline immunodeficiency
virus and vaccinate cats before putting them up for adoption. The organization
has found homes for more than 3,500 cats.
